A fun backstory…
The unexpected benefit of making Analog with local manufacturers is not only walking along side the whole production process, but also being able to cultivate new product ideas together in their workshops. You know it’s been a good day when we’re leaving a meeting covered in sawdust.
It was at one of these meetings that we noticed a huge pile of long walnut scraps in the corner. We learned that they were excess pieces from the Analog card holders.
Since the rough-cut walnut boards come from the sawmill in varying widths, these extra pieces are inevitable. (Similar to how you always end up with those extra pieces of dough when using cookie cutters) Seeing those “scraps” immediately got me thinking about how we could repurpose them into something useful.
So I went straight to my sketchbook and within a week we were off prototyping. We worked closely with our woodworker to get the perfect corner radius, angled cuts, and smooth matte finish.
We’re excited to launch the finished version today.
